Hey, Speakeasy family! I’m thrilled to share that as I pursue my journey to become a licensed body art practitioner, I’ve been diving deep into the abundant history of tattooing across cultures. Feeling inspired by Japanese tattoos that boast a rich and fascinating history that enhances our understanding of Japan's culture. Originating in the Jōmon period for spiritual and decorative purposes, these tattoos flourished into an exquisite art form during the Edo period, inspired by stunning woodblock prints and featuring iconic designs like dragons and koi fish. Despite initial associations with laborers and the yakuza that led to social stigma, while some negative perceptions persist, the remarkable craftsmanship of Japanese tattooing is celebrated worldwide today. It's an exciting time as this art form continues to evolve and gain appreciation, bridging traditions and contemporary expressions. Of course, this is a very brief summary of Japanese tattoo history. I'm excited to dive into the rich aspects of this culture, especially its captivating folklore and the deep symbolism behind various motifs. I can't wait to share my discoveries with you—stay tuned for more!

Much love, Sunny
